Construction of a parabolic reflector antenna WiFi performance to improve

A reflector antenna WiFi? There are some good reasons to try to facilitate the receipt of your wifi system, or to increase the signal from the wireless router in a particular direction.

This article gives construction details for an antenna reflector, we have built with tips and advice from other sites on the Internet. Unfortunately it is not sufficient to reach an elevator to reach this goal, the long distances (200 meters) reception, but was better received and would be good for the less ambitiousobjectives.

WiFi Antennas – why are they useful?

With wifi, you have usually one or two small antennas on the router and wireless antenna on your computer to laptops built in a USB dongle. In general, everything you need, but sometimes you need something a bit 'better.

The background of this project is a stay at a hotel without WiFi, but we know that about 200 yards away there was a restaurant with wifi that I could access the registry (to get a cup of coffee!).

So the challenge was toimprove reception on my laptop, a very weak signal of the restaurant.

But my challenge was to create a very weak signal that needed strengthening, so I went with a different design, with a reflector to focus on a standard antenna. If only a small improvement of the signal is necessary, it follows from the Web, a flat metal reflector behind the antenna enough. But for something more challenging, a parabolic reflector curve is necessary. Technology clincher is that my contact with Bill (an avid amateur, Ohio)decided to go for a parabolic design for what I wanted to do, rather than Cantenna.

Antenna Design

Then I cut the rectangle to the back corner, and two weeks form the support to adjust. Mosttime, I was caught in a library that books gradually making it more curved shape and adapt. Once the form correctly, I glued the curved back support, with the antenna in place to ensure that all lined up. I have the whole band a lot, to be sure, while the glue is dry (I use a glue solvent "Evostik" in case of impact with the water based on the map).

Tests and results

The addition of the reflector has a significant improvement in some signs and went into other signals that have never seen before, especially when I experiment with the adjustment (see horizontal vertical) and direction. I make a new reflector with a greater width, but postage is a problem, and the idea of taking a giant antenna with a hotel receipt …
